Promoting Media Literacy & Youth Citizen Journalism through Mobile Stories

News Decoder is helping to launch an ambitious new multinational project called “Promoting Media Literacy and Youth Citizen Journalism through Mobile Stories” — or ProMS. A collaboration between seven partners from six EU countries, the ProMS project aims to enhance media literacy skills among young people across Europe and beyond.

ProMS will achieve this by expanding the reach of Mobile Stories, an innovative educational tool developed by journalists to empower students to become responsible and informed media producers, consumers and distributors. With a proven track record in engaging more than 10,000 Swedish students, Mobile Stories will be localised into English for wider accessibility and customised to suit diverse cultural and socioeconomic environments.

News Decoder is leading the English-language adaptation of the tool, including accompanying learning worksheets and a series of tip videos by expert journalist offering guidance to young journalists. The expert videos will be embedded within the tool and widely available on the News Decoder site and our partners.

ProMS will foster cross-border collaboration by enabling journalistic partnerships between schools in different European countries. It will contribute to evidence-based media literacy practices by collecting user data and sharing insights with research and teaching communities.
